Two new publications about the outdoors

By Community Playthings

Over the summer, two new booklets on the importance of the outdoors in the early years have gone to press. Both are authored by Pete Moorhouse, the first with contributions from Jan White, Kathryn Solly and Jon Cree.

The first booklet in the series is titled Learning outdoors: building a solid foundation through nature. This booklet mostly covers the pedagogy and history behind outdoor play and learning, as well as exploring key concepts such as the natural world, physical development, and risk. Learning outdoors makes for an excellent CPD resource with its concise chapters and beautiful photography.

The second booklet, Outdoor environments: developing outdoor learning spaces, provides inspiration for setting up your outdoor learning environment. Pete covers topics such as: loose parts, outdoor zones, the outdoors and SEN, sustainability and the role of the adult.
